When there is a criminal trial and the jury is being
selected the lawyers for both sides get to use “peremptory
challenges” to say that they do not want
a particular juror.
This can be done when the juror is first selected or once
there are twelve potential jurors and the lawyers can see
the mix of people on the jury (this is known as Back
Striking).
